Wakefield Council have received funding from the West Yorkshire Mayor to reintroduce #AskForAngela into licensed premises across Wakefield district. Working in conjunction with West Yorkshire Police the safety initiative ‘Ask for Angela’ is being rolled out to bars, clubs and other licensed businesses across Wakefield district.

Anyone who feels unsafe, vulnerable or threatened can discreetly seek help by approaching venue staff and asking them for ‘Angela’. This code-phrase indicates to staff that they require help with their situation and a trained member of staff will then look to support and assist them. This might be through reuniting them with a friend, seeing them to a taxi, or by calling venue security and/or the police.

Venues that support ‘Ask for Angela’ will receive a training pack for staff members and they will receive a pin badge to show they have received training and will be able to assist if help is requested.

Venues will display posters in washrooms and other public areas so customers are aware the venue is participating in the scheme. There will also be a social media campaign

Do you want your venue to participate in ‘Ask for Angela’?

If your venue is interested in signing up for the scheme, please email Counter@wakefield.gov.uk. We will provide you with further information on the scheme and arrange the campaign material and toolkit to be sent to you to help you get started.
