Marquee Events of Wakefield have taken the biggest gamble of their entrepreneurial careers setting up sister company Marquee Structures which, with £100k of investment and a lot of hard work is growing with great success!

Max Johnson, Managing Director 29 & Daniel Greenwood, Operations Director 29 set up Marquee Events back in 2008, the Wakefield-based company is a provider of marquee hire and prides themselves on creating luxury weddings and parties across the UK - recently winning contracts for the likes of the Normanton Gala amongst other key events!

When lockdown hit in March 80% of their workload was sadly turned on its head and postponed to 2021 & 2022 with the businesses annual turnover set to massively decline from last year’s sum of £350k to around £150k for 2020, however Marquee Events have shown great resilience and somewhat recovered through by providing marquee hire to support the NHS track and trace system at this busy time.

Max Johnson is really pleased in the way that the business has been so forward-thinking and resilient: “at the time we were determined not to lose our valued workforce so we set about thinking of ways in which we could retain our staff. We saw a huge demand for Marquee frame work from our hire competitors down south who had been awarded nationwide corona virus contracts from the government. As a result we saw a gap in the market to start manufacturing framework to help these hire companies fulfil their contracts.”

We now employ 3 dedicated members of staff at our manufacturing plant and have been in operation for just over 3 months. We are regularly now breaking sales of £50k per month. We have even this month exported £25k worth of goods to Ireland.”

We are really proud to be manufacturing on British soil and in the space of a few months have created a new business that not only manufactures British products but exports internationally.”
