Wakefield Council asks businesses to take part in its promotional ‘summer loving’ campaign

14 July 2021

Wakefield Council is calling on local businesses to take part in its ‘summer loving’ campaign, which will encourage visitors back into the city centre, towns and green spaces by shining a light on all the fantastic places there are to visit from restaurants and shops to attractions and parks across the whole district.

The campaign aims to support local businesses to build back stronger and thrive throughout the summer - and beyond. The campaign intends to encourage residents and tourists to enjoy all that the district offers - safely.

The Council is reaching out to all businesses in the district to take part in the campaign. It’s an opportunity for businesses to showcase their offer to the public. Businesses can promote their upcoming events, their products or services and the Council will feature them on their channels. Those taking part will be able to have photographs taken of their business offer and there will also be an option to appear in a promotional video that will showcase different businesses and spaces in the district.

The campaign was developed in response to a recent Council survey, which revealed that many local business owners would like Wakefield Council to help promote their businesses and encourage footfall into the towns and city centre.

The public campaign will launch in conjunction with the school summer holidays. Residents will be encouraged to enter into dialogue on social media to share what they are looking forward to this summer. It could be a visit to their favourite eatery, a trip to the cinema, a visit to one of the district’s parks or a shopping trip, coffee and cake.

A range of competitions will run throughout the holidays and residents will be asked to submit their summer fun photos and share what they’re enjoying this summer. Our youngest residents will have the chance to draw their favourite summer activity for a chance to win a family fun package which includes a family swim and family bike hire at one of the district’s country parks.

Cllr Darren Byford, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Regeneration and Property, said: “We want to be there as much as possible for our amazing local businesses after what has had been a very tough period. The summer loving campaign is a great way for local business owners to promote their business and encourage residents and tourists to come and visit. We hope that the campaign will help firms across the district recover and grow. We wish them every success.”

Martin Hathaway, Managing Director of Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “This is a very welcome initiative from the Council. Businesses in all sectors have had a very tough 18 months and are looking forward to what will hopefully be a very busy few months ahead as our high streets return to normal.”
