Wakefield Council's Youth Voice and Influence Team are hosting The Build Our Futures Summit.

13 October 2021

We are celebrating Care Leavers Week on the 25th Oct.  It’s a chance to challenge stereotypes and showcase and celebrate the successes of care leavers from Wakefield, and to inspire them to achieve their full potential.

This year, our care experienced young people are providing training to newly qualified social workers, having a trip to Scaregrounds and York, indulging in a complimentary therapies session and trying out a virtual reality room. They’ll be sharing challenges on WF-I-Can.co.uk  (a fantastic Wakefield website helping children and young people with emotional wellbeing.  The week culminates in a celebration meal where awards will be given.

Research last year found that many care leavers have an average of £25 to spend per week after housing and bills this means that little is spare for food and the nice things that many take for granted.

Please can you donate items for our care leavers, it may be something that they may not normally be able to afford such as chocolate or pamper items or anything a young adult would appreciate.
