Waste management group grows its portfolio with Knottingley acquisition

24 June 2022

Knottingley-headquartered specialist waste company, Acumen Waste Services, has been acquired.

The company, which was founded in 1994 and has over 1,000 customers nationally and internationally, has been bought by waste management firm Beauparc.

Acumen’s services feature treatment and transfer at its own facilities, including difficult waste management, on-site industrial services, and contracted waste collections.

As well as removing waste, its Industrial Site Services team work on-site with some of the world’s largest petrochemical, oil and gas businesses, ensuring safe, efficient and sustainable waste processing.

For Beauparc, the acquisition signifies a move into the specialist waste treatment sector.

Acumen  managing director, Andy Crossley, said: “Like Beauparc, Acumen has grown to become a leader within the specialist and difficult waste sector and we’re very proud of the brand, achievements and customers that have become part of this journey with us.

“Moving forward we’re excited to be able to deliver the same innovative and specialist solutions for our own customers but also help provide total waste management to Beauparc’s existing customer base.

“Retaining the knowledge and people within Acumen, as well as the support from a much larger organisation will bring with it greater benefits for all.”

As part of this transition, longstanding Acumen board members and shareholders Leon Kirk and Jon Morris will be stepping down from the board.

In a joint statement, the pair said: “We’re both very proud to have served on the board and seen the growth and development of such a strong business.

“Becoming part of the Beauparc group will present excellent opportunities, not just for the dedicated team that work within Acumen or the fantastic array of customers but also for the industry.

“As a business we’ve led the industry for several years, and we’ll take great interest charting its successes going forward.”
