Wakefield Council is partnered in a new employment programme Works Better.
Works Better isn’t like other ‘into-work’ programmes. We help people who want to get into work overcome the barriers that are stopping them, and we support employers with suitable vacancies to access this source of committed future employees.
We do this across all of Wakefield Calderdale and Kirklees which means that we have lots of people and vacancies to bring together.We have a dedicated employer team who are working with local businesses and sourcing vacancies for people who want to work. Not every job is suitable and we look to work with employers who see the benefit of employing someone returning to work.Motivation, commitment and loyalty - these are all valued qualities, and when combined with the assurance that a potential employee has worked with us - then it becomes a viable recruitment strategy. It works better for employers too!

Works Better is a new ‘into-work’ programme that provides employers and organisations with motivated, committed and loyal staff.
Across our previous programmes we have worked with over 500 companies across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield and supported them with a package of support and one-to-one mentoring that has resulted in over 1000 vacancies filled. With an outstanding 89% + still in post after six months!
The people we work with know that Works Better! We work with a diverse range of people, take their energy & enthusiasm … add a programme of support & one-to-one mentoring, to create a candidate that will be an asset to any company in the area. In connecting those to suitable vacancies through our ‘bespoke matching service’ we ensure they are a right fit - first time for your organisation.
We are looking to work with local companies who can see the benefit of employing someone returning to work.
We understand that not all vacancies are suitable, but we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your recruitment needs and identify opportunities where we can help.
How can we help?
- Look at your recruitment processes and review your job descriptions to maximise the number of candidates applying
- Put you in contact with candidates who have completed relevant pre-employment training and are ready to start
- Help to screen applications - advertise, interview and shortlist for your consideration
- Arrange interviews and work experience opportunities
