A Grand Day Out brings the seaside to Castleford, Wakefield and South Elmsall

31 Jul 2024

A Grand Day Out is bringing the beach to the Wakefield district with free family days this August.

The summer events are a part of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024, an inclusive year-long celebration of Wakefield district and an invitation to enjoy 366 days of culture, creativity, and connection for everyone, everywhere.

Little ones will love the giant sand pit, and it’s a perfect opportunity for children to have some fun, creative play. It’s time to pick up a bucket and spade and practice sandcastles whilst playing in the sand.

There will be face painting and free mini golf where children and adults can test their golf putting skills and go for a hole in one.

There will also be a fun fair at the Castleford and Wakefield events.

Each Grand Day Out event will be joined by the Hepworth Wakefield learning team for outdoor creative play. It’s a chance to stack, build, experiment, draw and play with activities inspired by artworks in the gallery.

There’ll be a chance to get creative and take part in seaside themed craft activities before trying out the delicious street food.

The festivities kick off in Castleford town centre on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 August before heading to Wakefield city centre and South Elmsall for two more weekends of free family fun.
