MatchPoint Wakefield Open marks an exciting milestone for both the club and the wider MatchPoint Tour. Founded by Cai Younger, MatchPoint was created with the aim of growing competitive opportunities and strengthen the squash community across the UK. The Wakefield Open will be the fifth MatchPoint event hosted in Yorkshire, the first at Wakefield Squash Club, and the 17th club in England to host a one-day graded MatchPoint tournament.
Wakefield Squash Club will put all four courts into graded action, including three glass-back courts offering excellent viewing galleries for spectators. With an on-site bar, attendees can expect an exciting showcase of squash, featuring both experienced competitors and emerging talent.
Paul Ramsdale, Club Chairman at Wakefield Squash Club, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the MatchPoint Wakefield Open for the first time at Wakefield Squash Club. Events like this are a fantastic opportunity to showcase everything the sport has to offer, while welcoming both new and familiar faces from across the region to compete in a friendly and inclusive environment.

This event perfectly reflects what our club stands for - competitive squash, a strong sense of community, and creating an environment where players of all levels and ages can enjoy the sport. We’re confident it will be a brilliant day both on and off the court, and the beginning of an exciting new tournament tradition at Wakefield Squash Club.”
