Building Carer Friendly Workplaces Together

02 Feb 2026

An unpaid carer provides help and support to a family member, partner, friend, or neighbour who needs it because of illness, disability, mental health concerns, or addiction, and cannot cope without their assistance.

The key is that the support is unpaid and can include emotional support, personal care, practical tasks like shopping, and managing finances or medication.

Carers

Anyone of any age can be an unpaid carer, and they don't always recognize themselves in the role but they deserve guidance and support.

3 in 5 of us will become unpaid carers in our lifetime so it’s no surprise employers have begun to realise that supporting their staff who balance work and a caring role makes good business sense. Juggling work and a caring role is never easy.

Supporting working carers is good for staff and good for business. It improves wellbeing, retention and productivity.

We are offering free, tailored support to Employers in the Wakefield district to help your business become more carer friendly.

The offer is open to all sectors and professionals: you may be an employee who is a carer or a professional who has a special interest or responsibility for employer’s wellbeing all are welcome.
