Fry Awards 2026: Wakefield fish and chip shop named among 50 best in UK
A fish and chip shop in Wakefield has been named among the 50 best in the UK.
Fry Magazine has announced the winners of its 2026 Fry Awards, celebrating the best chippies across the country, crowning The Codfather on Townley Road, Lupset, for the second year running.
Takeaways, restaurants and mobile units were visited by mystery diners and judged on criteria including the quality of food, cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.
This was the 14th year the awards have taken place.
Ilham Shamchiyev, from The Codfather, said they are ‘absolutely delighted’ with the news.
"We are very proud to be recognised again at the UK Fry Awards.
"It means a great deal to us, especially as it reflects the hard work, consistency and passion of the whole team at The Codfather.
"We focus on using quality ingredients, maintaining high standards and looking after our customers, so to see that acknowledged is very rewarding.

The Codfather will now receive a plaque to proudly display in the shop and, new for this year, will also receive a premium eight-piece bundle of frying utensils, courtesy of award sponsor Hopkins, and will be entered into a draw to win pies and POS from Pukka.
