Junction 32 records 18% footfall increase in H1
The outlet centre close to Castleford said store openings and embracing experiential shopping had helped it to a 2.6% increase in turnover in 2024’s first six months.
Junction 32 said that it had embraced the trend towards experiential shopping, majoring on community engagement and social interaction through such events as a monthly artisan craft fayre and a rotating busker pitch.
New openings and upsizes with key retailers such as Greggs, Pavers, Sports Direct, Mountain Warehouse and Sofa.com have all contributed at the centre, while a re-fit has been completed for outdoor retailer Trespass.
With the sports and outdoor segments performing well, surfwear brand Saltrock has also now signed, opening a 1,000 sq ft store in July. This weekend will see rugby specialist Oxen Sports open its first bricks and mortar location, taking a 1,500 sq ft space.
Rachel Scott, head of leasing at asset manager Global Mutual, said: “Junction 32’s outstanding performance is down to the centre’s effective strategies resulting in successful openings and expansions of key stores, along with the completion of significant refurbishments. The record turnover and substantial increase in footfall highlights the strong appeal of our brand offerings.”
Located in Glasshoughton, Junction 32 offers more than 70 high street and designer brand outlets with up to 70% off, with the Xscape Yorkshire attraction next door.
As the name suggests, the centre is located just two minutes from Junction 32 of the M62 and offers free parking for 1,400 cars, with electric vehicle charging points and accessible spaces along with 10 coach bays.
Global Mutual manages the asset for Frasers Group, which acquired the centre from Landsec for £45m in 2023.
