Maker of the Month

"Hi! I’m Evie or Evangeline for long. I’m a queer Freelance Illustrator and Creative, which means that I do lots of varied creative work, including illustration, design, project support and so on. My main passion is digital illustration and creating wonky, bendy art that’s full of energy and bold colours. I’ve been doing freelance work for about five years now! At first, I was doing it either side of part-time work, but in 2023 I went fully freelance, which was super exciting and scary. I can’t believe how fast it’s gone, but I’ve enjoyed every bit of the journey so far. I’m really passionate about LGBTQIA+ rights, the environment, activism and social justice and my creative work allows me to channel this passion into inclusive work that’s inspiring and enjoyable for all folks!"

"I was born in Wakefield, so the district has such homely feels to me. I love the community spirit and the investment in arts and culture over the recent years. After working in Wakefield Voluntary Sector, I got to know a lot of people and organisations, who went on to become clients of my freelance work and colleagues. It just sort of organically happened and felt right! Although I now live in Sheffield, a lot of my freelance work has still been from Wakefield, which I love."

"It's so hard to choose my top favourite projects that I’ve worked on; I agree to work that means a lot to me and aligns with my values. Each project I’ve worked on has been wildly different! That’s what I love about this line of work, it’s so varied. I really like working with local charities, organisations and small businesses- creating assets and resources for them to use, but I also love being entrusted with commission pieces for people- I’ll make you a super wonky pet portrait or snazzy poster any day."

"I’m currently working on branching my business out to sell printed goods and offer more than just my freelance services. I’m on the hunt for small businesses to stock my colourful illustrated cards and prints in, bonus points for eco or queer businesses! With the rising use of AI, I want to champion human-made art and start creating a lot more traditional illustration- maybe I’ll venture into painting or printing as well as drawing"
