Maker of the Month: Vicky Hughes
Vicky Hughes is a local West Yorkshire Illustrator and is featured as our Maker Of The Month for November. They're known for their live and information illustrations that have been recently used for the Doorstep Discoveries publication in Wakefield.
Wakefield First reached out to Vicky to discover more about her incredible illustrations.
"I do live illustration and ‘information illustration’ - which could be GIFs, animation or infographics. My clients are mostly academics, but really anybody who has a lot of dense, possibly dry information that they want to be made more playful or engaging.
I’ve been doing it for five years. Before that I was a data scientist in the civil service and then the tech industry. I’m still using those analytical skills in my job now - I used to turn information into charts and reports, now I make it into drawings and infographics!"
"My Grandma lived in Wakefield at the end of her life, so I have lots of fond memories here. I love the arts culture in the city, and the restaurants! I recently worked on Doorstep Discoveries, a local tourism publication, and enjoyed researching and finding out more about Wakefield."
"I just really love any live event that I can illustrate. A recent favourite was portrait drawing of children - they were very entertaining. Another was live illustrating a Neurodiversity conference - I learn so much at these events and get to meet loads of interesting people."
"I’m working on an educational animation at the moment, which is great for the winter months as I can work on it when I’m cosy at home! Next year will bring more live events and live illustration - I’m really looking forward to getting more booked in."
