"My business is called Wayne Sables Project. I work in film, projection mapping, and digital technologies. My business model is that of a freelance creative, where I can scale up or down depending on a project's requirements. I originally began my career as a contemporary dancer, training at Bretton Hall before joining dance touring companies. I performed for around ten years before repositioning myself and re-training in film. I work on a range of projects with a team of freelancers, spanning film, projection and immersive technologies. I believe the essence of what I do is storytelling, whether that be a feature documentary or a short film documenting a project for a local authority, directing a fiction film or project mapping a building. I love what I do and the variety it brings. I can work in a range of environments with a range of subjects in a short time, and I enjoy the diversity and challenges that a range of people brings."
"Wakefield is where I found my creative voice. It was the place where I believed anything was possible. It allowed me to experiment, explore and create at the beginning of my training and subsequent career. Wakefield has a very special place in my heart, although I no longer live there, I cherish the opportunity to work and continue creating and experimenting there. I am purposely nomadic in where I'm located, as it means I can immerse myself in a place when working there."
"Some of my favourite projects are always capturing and telling interesting stories that have significance to the place they are created. One such project is a film I created in Wakefield called The Merrie City, a feature documentary about the indie music scene that emerged off Westgate in the late 90s or early 2000s. Another project is a current project, which is a projection-mapped work and a feature film entitled Doncaster and the Miners Strike. This is significant to me as I grew up in a mining village, and my father was a miner, my family are in the Yorkshire area because they migrated for mining. I try to throw myself into every project I do, it is difficult to name only a few that stand out."
"I premier Doncaster and the Miner's Strike in November 2024, after that, I go straight into editing a feature film that I have been filming since January 2024. The film follows a world champion duathlete who has decided to overcome her crippling fear of water to undertake a 100km triathlon. That film premieres in February 2025. After that, I am working on a redevelopment of an interactive sound and light sculpture we premiered in 2024 in Wakefield called ’The Glasshouse’."
