The Wellness Mentor: running fitness sessions and offering personal training for women across the Wakefield District
The Wellness Mentor is a fitness coaching and personal training business created by Natalie Wood. She noticed that there was a lack of women-only fitness facilities in Wakefield and created The Wellness Mentor to remedy this.
They have established sessions across Wakefield Sports Club, Altofts Methodist Church and Altofts Canal.
Wakefield was the ideal choice of location for this business due to the thriving urban spaces and great outdoor areas. Connectivity was also a key factor for them, and the Wakefield District was able to offer quick links to the M1 and M62, with quick access to Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.
Wakefield First were able to support The Wellness Mentor with business coaching and check-ins through the Start Up West Yorkshire scheme:
"This has helped to offer guidance and training in business management and also the encouragement and support that is well needed as a sole trader navigating business ownership alone. This free support has been invaluable to the growth of my business."
They regularly rent local venues across the area, which ensures that they contribute to the upkeep of these valuable community spaces.
"I’m incredibly proud of the impact The Wellness Mentor has had on women’s lives. Many of my clients tell me that before joining, they struggled to stick to a workout routine and felt unsure of where to start. What sets my services apart is a focus on addressing the unique barriers women face when it comes to exercise, creating a supportive and empowering space where they can build strength and prioritise their health for the long term."
2025 is set to be an exciting year for the business with the launch of a brand new class timetable with new morning classes at Altofts Methodist Church, from 7:30am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. They will also be launching a 6 Week Small Group Personal Training Program in January which is dedicated support to help women establish a consistent training routine and start making their health and wellness a priority. The future also holds big plans, including the launch of the The Wellness Club
"My ultimate dream is to create a dedicated space exclusively for women, where they can train, feel supported, and focus on their fitness and wellness goals in a safe, welcoming environment."
