03 February 2023 — 9:30am to 11:30am

Venue: Theatre Royal Wakefield, Drury Lane, WF1 2TE

A morning of networking & collaboration with We Are Wakefield. Key speaker Simon Lightwood MP will join us at Wakefield Theatre Royal...

Join us from 9.30am on Friday 3rd February for a morning of networking and collaboration with the largest business community in the Wakefield District.

Members and first timers will enjoy breakfast, networking and hearing from our speakers, Sarah Shooter of Wakefield Theatre Royal and Simon Lightwood MP.

About our speaker:

Simon is happily married with two adopted children. He first met his husband in Wakefield 14 years ago, after studying theatre acting at Bretton Hall. They adopted their children in 2017.

Prior to being a MP, Simon was a proud NHS worker and was a Labour councillor for four years. He has dedicated his life to fighting for communities and causes that matter to local people.Growing up in the Thatcher years, Simon saw first-hand the suffering inflicted by Tory governments on families including his own. His family home was repossessed, and he was forced to share a bedroom with his nana, sister and aunty. His experiences growing up drove him to help families with similar stories, and since then he has helped hundreds of people facing challenging circumstances.

Simon has turned his tough upbringing into a force for good. He truly understands the hardship that people are currently facing in the cost-of-living crisis, having walked in their shoes. Simon will take action to make sure the people of Wakefield are given the best possible chances in life.Since being elected, Simon and his team have assisted over 1500 Wakefield constituents with issues and spoken in Parliament on many issues including bus services, assistance for veterans and the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on pensioners. In October, he was asked to join Labour's front bench as a Shadow Transport Minister. He is a member of the APPG for Rugby League and is a proud Wakefield Trinity fan.'
