West Yorkshire pest control products maker and distributor Killgerm Group has reported a rise in pre-tax profit following a "remarkably busy and successful year".

Pre-tax profits grew by 8.3 per cent to £3.6m in the company's results for the year ending 31 December 2019, while turnover for continuing operations increased by 5 per cent to £45.3m.

During 2019, Killgerm sold 100 per cent of the shareholding in Travelwise Group to French company Travel Planet.

The Ossett-based company also acquired Milluck, based in Malmö, Sweden, which supplies the professional pest control service market in the country and elsewhere in Scandinavia.

Group managing director Rupert Broome said: "2019 has been a remarkably busy and successful year for Killgerm Group. We successfully exited from the non- core travel sector through our divestment of Travelwise Group in April 2019 and we have also successfully completed a strategic acquisition in Sweden in October 2019.

"Meanwhile, our core operations have continued to perform strongly across the business throughout the year. As a result, Killgerm Group ended 2019 in the best financial position in its history and has allowed us to face the challenges of 2020 with a great deal of confidence.

"These results all come from the remarkable efforts of the truly excellent set of colleagues we have within the Killgerm Group operations around the world."

Killgerm Group has operations in 11 countries on four continents.

Broome added: "While the coronavirus pandemic has caused a major shock to the global economy in general, the essential need for professional pest control has continued throughout the lockdowns around the world and Killgerm Group is playing a major role in ensuring professional pest controllers are fully supported in the delivery of their essential services."
