Expanded public health & GP services for Castleford

22 November 2022

Expanded public health services are earmarked for Castleford.

Wakefield Council, the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and NHS Property services have teamed up to create a new health hub on Welbeck Street in Castleford.

The existing building which is over 50 years old and located next door to the site where the new hub is to be built, has inadequate space to meet growing demand and is also reaching the end of its life.

The new premises will allow residents to access treatment faster and closer to home.

The Council is providing £12.5m towards the construction of the new building and demolition of the old building.

The existing two GP practices will move into the new building and there will be capacity for a third along with other public healthcare services.

This is a key part of a long-term development plan for Castleford.

Known as the Strategic Regeneration Framework, the plan provides a long-term route map for the development of the town that will guide the efforts of public and private sector developers in the town in the coming decades.
