Enhanced pedestrian link at Colonels Walk approved

23 January 2023

Proposals to renovate an underpass for cyclists and pedestrians have been approved by the Network Rail structures team.

The Colonels Walk underpass is a key part of the scheme to create a cycle way linking Pontefract Park with Knottingley. Many sections of the Pontefract – Knottingley Connect scheme are already complete, including Sowgate Lane which has been resurfaced between the A162 and Stumpcross Lane.

The Colonels Walk underpass connects Beechnut Lane with Colonels Walk, close to Pontefract Tanshelf station. It is located just around the corner from an upcoming affordable housing development. It also provides a link between the new housing at Princes Gate, Ember Mews and Edenbrook Vale, and Pontefract town centre.

The design phase for the scheme is almost complete, and works are due to start on site by Autumn 2023.
