Planning permission approved for former Castleford Baths site

27 September 2023

A planning application made by WDH and EQUANS for 69 new affordable homes on the former Castleford Baths site was approved this month. This is one of four WDH sites that the Council is supporting where viability would prevent them being progressing. The Council is using section 106 ring fenced affordable housing commuted sum money that has been requested from developers on other sites, to fund up to 40% of the identified viability gap. This is just one of the ways the Council is meeting its commitment to actively support affordable housing delivery across our District.

The 4.8 acres (1.9 hectare) site is a 15-minute walk from Castleford town centre and the rail station and will deliver a choice of two, three and four-bed detached, semi-detached and terraced homes all with private off-street parking, that will meet a range of household needs. As well as affordable rent homes, there will also be shared ownership opportunities for those people who want to get on to the property ladder.
