Insider ranks Yorkshire's top digital tech companies based on their revenue and profiles some that made the list below.

No. 19 - Team17

Where is it? Team17 is headquartered in Wakefield with a studio in Manchester and a commercial office in Nottingham.

When was it established? It was established in 1990.

What is it? Team17 is a listed games developer and publisher that has released more than 90 games to date across multiple platforms, including the Worms franchise, The Escapists, Overcooked, and Beyond Eyes.

Its objective for the label is to build sustainability for its partners. On top of traditional services such as marketing, PR, sales, localisation and age ratings, Team17 also provides funding and support for developers at all stages.

In April 2024, the company reported it had slipped to a pre-tax loss in its latest financial results, due to one-off cash charges of £11.1m relating to games title impairments and a £20.9m goodwill impairment charge relating to the acquisition of San Francisco-based independent games publisher The Label Inc. However, revenue grew by more than 10 per cent.

The group launched 11 games in the period, including Dredge, which has sold over one million units.

A re-evaluation of the cost structure by senior management led Team17 to announce a company restructure last year, resulting in significant job losses.

The games label arm of the business is now said to be refocused on its "proven low-risk" core indie games model, and tighter cost controls have been enforced. Steve Bell succeeded Debbie Bestwick as chief executive in January 2024.
