Second Chance Headway: Supporting the lives and families of people with brain injuries

23 July 2024

Second Chance Headway is a Wakefield-based charity that supports people with brain injuries and their families. They were founded at Pinderfields Hospital almost fifty years ago. During that time, they have opened three sites around the city centre of Wakefield. They currently support over two hundred people across the county.

Wakefield First continue to support the charity with connections and contacts which they use to expand their network and further grow the impressive work that they do. With the assistance of our Business Support Team, Second Chance Headway want to focus on growth and establishing new partnerships across West Yorkshire.

“The Wakefield District is great for connectivity being central to Yorkshire with brilliant motorway links and regular mainline rail at Wakefield Westgate” commented Business Manager, Nathan Garbutt-Moore.

The charity does incredible work across the district, including:

  • 139 individuals provided with community rehabilitation.
  • 55 professionals provided with brain injury training.
  • 31 individuals prevented from suicide.
  • 39 individuals supported with relapse prevention.
